Accelerator Apprentice Plan

Skills4Work staff visit on a regular scheduled basis. The frequency of these visits is decided by the company and can range from monthly visits (total of 12 visits per year) to bi-monthly (6 visits). These visits are to assess the apprentices training progress while motivating and coaching the apprentice to keep achieving in their apprenticeship.

Unlike the ATNZ Apprentice Plan, under the Accelerator Apprentice Plan companies still retain control over the employment of the apprentice and are responsible for all employment issues. Skills4Work staff work with both the company and apprentice in an advisory capacity rather. They are not the direct employer of the apprentice.

Skills4Work is responsible for:

  • Developing a training plan
  • Skills4Work staff visit regularly to track, assess and register credits achieved by the apprentice
  • Mentoring and coaching of the apprentice

The company is responsible for:

  • The apprentices' weekly wage
  • Holiday pay, sick leave, bereavement leave and Statutory holidays
  • Off job training and fees, and travel and accommodation if required
  • Registration fees with the ITO and training agreement
  • ACC
  • Health and safety
  • Vehicle costs including licences, WOF, insurance
  • Hazard register, accident register and accident notification forms
